First results
The census 2011 results will be released in different phases as they become available. The first results to be released will be the Preliminary Population Report which will be published in June 2011, about 12 weeks after census day. This report will contain the total population of males and females in each Electoral Division across the country and will be based on summary data taken from the front of the census forms. The next results will be published once we have scanned and captured the data off all 2 million census forms, which takes about 7 months, and then prepared the results for publication which takes another couple of months. We expect to publish these first final results within one year of census day, in April 2012.

Census Profiles
The majority of census results will be made available by way of Census Profiles, organized by theme. Each profile will contain a limited number of tables of data along with detailed interpretation and analysis of the results accompanied by thematic maps and charts. These results will be made available throughout 2012 beginning in March.
Web only tables
Each Census Release will be accompanied by a wide range of census tables that will be made available as interactive web-only tables on the CSO web site. All data will be available to download to excel. These results will be made available in tandem with the Census Releases throughout 2012. You can check out our 2006 interactive tables here.
Publications
There will be a selection of hard copy publications designed to meet the needs of heavy users who refer regularly to census summary results and have a requirement for a quick reference publication that they can keep on their bookshelf. These publications will be the Principal Demographic Results, Population by Area, and the Principal Socio-economic results. The content of these publications will be based on that provided for the 2006 reports which can be found here. These reports will be published in the first half of 2012, beginning in April 2012.
Small Area Population Statistics
The real strength of the census is the possibility to provide real meaningful data for very small areas and our Small Area Population Statistics (SAPS) are one of our most popular products. For 2011 the areas for which the tables will be produced will include the 19,000 new Small Areas (which typically contain 75 – 150) dwellings. The tables will be available both thematically (for example tables on nationality available for all small areas together) and by area (all tables for a particular area). These results will be available from Quarter 4 of 2012. To see the SAPS results for 2006 click here or check out our interactive mapping search tool here which includes a video demonstration on how to access the data you are looking for.
Population profiles
For census 2011 it is planned to release a brand new product that will provide a summary profile for particular geographic areas, e.g. towns, electoral divisions, etc. The two page report will contain summary census results on a selection of key demographic and economic variables, a map, tables and charts.
